"It's totally inhumane and absolutely illegal this house imprisonment of an entire population, and in this area alone 200,000 people are imprisoned in their homes. About two million people in the West Bank are imprisoned in their homes currently, and this is what we are protesting."

STORYLINE:

Curfews continued on Friday in many Palestinian towns including Nablus, after Israeli forces moved in earlier in the week in retaliation for two Palestinian suicide bomb attacks that killed 26 Israelis in Jerusalem last week.

The curfews have confined more than 700,000 people to their homes.

In the northern West Bank city of Nablus, about 40 foreign activists from the International Movement for Solidarity with the Palestinian People held a curfew-breaking march from a market into the city centre.

Joined by about 60 Palestinian residents, they held banners reading "Pull out of the Palestinian territories" and "Curfew is imprisonment", and chanted slogans calling for the end of Israeli occupation.

Soldiers watched from rooftops but did not intervene and the protest went off peacefully.
