"I think that the choice of Marine Le Pen is a natural choice at the end of the campaign for Éric Zemmour, presidential obviously. STORYLINE:
French far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen will count on votes from Eric Zemmour's supporters for the French presidency after advancing on Sunday with President Emmanuel Macron in the first round of voting.
"I think that the choice of Marine Le Pen is a natural choice at the end of the campaign for Éric Zemmour," said Mathilde Leconte, a Zemmour supporter from Lille.
Alexandre de Vellis, a school teacher from Mayotte, agreed: "I think there is a natural union between Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour on the fundamentals."   
The decision by extreme-right pundit Zemmour to enter the race divided Le Pen's support base.
With most votes counted, Macron had 27% and Le Pen had just over 24%. Hard-left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon was third, missing out on the two-candidate runoff, with close to 21%.
Final official results were not yet available.
To win in round two, both Macron and Le Pen now need to reach out to voters who backed the 10 presidential candidates defeated on Sunday.
