Описание к видео Meet Jim Carey

Jim Carey speaks about why he became a lawyer and his roots.

Hi my name is Jim Carey, I'm the President and Managing Partner of the SiebenCarey law firm. I've been an attorney here at this same firm for almost 30 years. I grew up in northern Minnesota, my father was a lawyer, and then became a judge. My great uncle was a lawyer, and became a judge. My great grandfather, who I am named after, was a lawyer and became a judge. My uncle is a lawyer.

After graduating from high school in Biwabik, Minnesota, on the Iron Range, I went to St. John's University, in Collegeville. I then worked for my now law partner Harry Sieben, who was the Speaker at the Minnesota House of Representatives. I worked at the capitol for about a year, or a year and a half and then went back to law school.

I graduated from William Mitchell Law School. Even prior to that time I was clerking here as a law clerk, and then began working here full time. Any of my good friends from law school work for banks and insurance companies and big business. They're all great and accomplished people, but I'm not sure I would like being a lawyer, unless I did what I do. Which is represent individuals.

I think in part it stems from my background. I grew up with steel workers. My dad was a lawyer, but all my friend’s fathers were steel workers. They were union members. They worked in the mines. They were blue collar, and I kind of grew up in that atmosphere and those values are still important to me. So that's something I take great personal pride in and I insist that my staff members take that same kind of sense of pride.
