Pidurangala is an ancient rock fortress located in Sri Lanka, close to the famous Sigiriya. It is also known as Pidurangala Rock or "offered piles of gold" in Sinhalese.

One of the main reasons to climb Pidurangala is the view from the top. It provides a panoramic vista of the surrounding countryside, including a stunning view of Sigiriya itself. Many visitors choose to hike Pidurangala for sunrise to witness the first rays of light bathe Sigiriya in a golden glow.

Pidurangala has its own historical and archaeological significance. There is a cave temple complex on the way up the rock with a reclining Buddha statue, which was once the largest brick reclining Buddha statue in the world. There are also ruins of an ancient Buddhist monastery dating back to the first century BCE.

The hike to the top of Pidurangala is a relatively short but challenging one. The first part of the trail consists of stairs, while the second half involves some scrambling over large boulders. It's generally considered to be less difficult than climbing Sigiriya.

The entrance fee to Pidurangala is significantly less than that of Sigiriya, making it a more budget-friendly option.
