Hello all! :D

Today, we cast our eyes over the Class 58, perhaps the best of Britain's heavy freight diesel locomotives due to its superb mixture of modular design, powerful mechanics and reliability, its main task being to supersede the strong but flawed Class 56 as the primary motive traction for what was considered to be a thriving coal industry.

Unfortunately, within a few years of their introduction, the coal industry in Britain dried up as a result of the infamous 1984 Miner's Strike, and with its main turn of duty now robbed from it, the 50 strong fleet of Class 58s would struggle to find work for the next decade, until eventually, with the arrival of the Class 66s under EWS, these barely run-in machines would be withdrawn after only 20 years of use.
