On August 14, India is observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. India’s partition in 1947 is a story of millions who sought new homes in environments which were alien to them. About 6 million non-Muslims moved out from what had become West Pakistan. Another 6.5 million Muslims moved out from Punjab, Delhi and other parts of India, to West Pakistan. In 2021, PM Modi gave a call to observe August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.“Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,” PM Modi had tweeted.In 1947, there was the joy of freedom on one side and on the other, there was the trauma of partition. The estimate of those killed during the partition has varied from 500,000 to over 1,000,000. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices, the nation is observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
