I have previously visited this railway but perhaps I wanted to give Shillingstone Railway Station or North Dorset Railway as it’s called a bit of a exposure to attract others like you to visit this place.

Although being somewhat a station with a bit of track with plans to extend further to Sturminster Newton. The railway is progressing ever since I last visited in October 2022 for example the Project 62 with the aim to restore two “USA Tank” engines which is 30076 which is under restoration whilst 30075 is awaiting its restoration. Both of these locomotives are ex United States Army Transportation Corps S100 Class 0-6-0T and former Yugoslavian JŽ (Jugoslovenske Železnice) Class 62 steam locomotive that once were based in Southampton Docks used as shunters.

The North Dorset Railway reopened Shillingstone Railway Station as a tourist attraction and restore the site just as it looked in 1950s and 1960s. Restoration began in 2006 and many buildings were repaired alongside with a replica signal box. The track work within the station was completed in Summer 2020.

Overall, the heritage railway is still continuing its goal and its worth a visit although going by transport is very awkward to get to.

May I wish them the best of luck on their extension and the restoration of 30075 and 30076!
