DESCRIPTION//
A tribute to the banter between Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont in the Marx Brothers film series.

MARX BROTHERS FILMS USED;
The Cocoanuts (1928)
Animal Crackers (1930)
Duck Soup (1933)
A Night at the Opera (1935)
A Day at the Races (1937)
At the Circus (1939)
The Big Store (1941)

I can't even deal with these two. Seriously, my love for Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont is infinite. I discovered The Marx Brothers thanks to a friend of mine on Twitter. She knew of my passion for Old Hollywood and was kind enough to think of me when she bought a copy of "Groucho, Harpo, Chico and Sometimes Zeppo". She was also kind enough to give that book to me and for this, I am forever grateful. If she had never bought that book, I probably would've never discovered The Marx Brothers.

I don't know if she'll ever see this video. However, if by some miracle she does; I owe this video (and my Marx Brothers obsession) to you, Lou. Although, I know you'd probably rather me make a Saints video lol. Hopefully I can turn one of those out for you (as a thank you) this year!

For those thinking that I'm being a little dramatic...well, all I can say is you clearly don't know how much The Marx Brothers mean to me! They have helped cheered me up in some of my darkest moments...and for that, I am truly thankful. Hopefully I can make a proper tribute to all the brothers at some point. They deserve it. They deserve so much more love in general.

So, this video. I can't quite decide whether it's crack...or just crap. I'll let you all decide. When I first showed this to my brother, he said he didn't understand the song choice. So, I feel I owe it to you all to give some background info on that. When I first decided to make a video about Groucho and Dumont, I had no idea what song I would use. All the songs I was picking felt too modern for them (considering the Marx Brothers films were made in the first half of the 20th century). Then later, I was listening to my iPod and this song came on. I started to think about it and decided it could possibly work. This is one of the most over-used songs on YouTube and it is always used for fun, quippy, sexy couples with lots of banter. I tried talking myself out of it...however, I couldn't help but think that if there were already 50+ videos set to this song, why couldn't there be one about Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont?! Afterall, who is better at banter than Groucho Marx?!

To be honest, I have always wanted to use this song (I even started a Pacey/Jen video to this song awhile back) but never quite found an idea I liked. And this is an idea I LOVE. So, I decided to make this video...and, in a lot of ways, it's kind of a statement about my YouTube channel and my videos in general. I'm not always going to make popular choices. I have always made my videos for me. Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont were the original innovator's of this style of comedy and I enjoy bringing these two icons into the 21st Century. So, even if it is crap- I'm sticking to my guns.

For those interested in pursuing the Marx Brothers filmography, I would highly recommend you start with "Duck Soup" and "A Night at the Opera". They are their most famous films and probably their best introductory pieces. Though my personal favourite of their films is "Animal Crackers", I'd still recommend "Duck Soup" and "A Night at the Opera" as starting points. They were actually the first two films I watched and they definitely peaked my interest in these hilarious brothers. Their Paramount films are definitely their best though, so stick to those in the beginning.
