1997, Saeed Anwar 194 runs in the Pepsi Cup

On this day 21 May 1997, Pakistani former captain and an opening batsman Saeed Anwar scored 194 runs against India in the Independence Cup match in Chennai. Anwar scored 194 off only 146 balls, an innings that included 22 fours and 5 sixes. Shahid Afridi helped as a runner from the 19th over. Anwar's 194 brooked the record of Sir Vivian Richards' 189 that he scored against England in 1984, to become the highest score for that time, and now the tenth highest individual score in an ODI. Saeed Anwar held the record long for 12 years till it was equalled by Charles Coventry in 2009. Sachin Tendulkar dismissed Saeed Anwar on 194 and Sachin Tendulkar became the first man to score 200 runs in an ODI in 2010.
