Nirmala Srivastava (21 March 1923 – 23 February 2011), also known as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, was the founder and guru of Sahaja Yoga. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (1923–2011) was a spiritual leader and humanitarian who dedicated her life to helping people achieve self-realization through Sahaja Yoga.
She emphasized meditation from the heart, no fees or rituals, and universal spirituality accessible to all.
Sahaja Yoga is a spiritual meditation practice founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970.
The word “Sahaja” means “spontaneous” or “born with you,” and “Yoga” means “union.”
So, Sahaja Yoga literally means “spontaneous union with the Divine” — a natural awakening of inner energy that connects you with your true self and the universal spirit.

Sahaja Yoga teaches that every person has a subtle energy system with seven chakras (energy centers) and a dormant energy called Kundalini at the base of the spine.
