The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 991 is a high performance version of the Porsche 911 sports car primarily intended for racing. It is a line of high-performance models, which began with the 1973 911 Carrera RS. The GT3 is named after the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Group GT3 class it was designed to compete in.

A number of variations, designed for road and track duty, have been introduced since its launch in 1999. More than 14,000 911 GT3 cars have been produced.

The GT3 has had a successful racing career in the one-make national Porsche Carrera Cup series, and the international Porsche Supercup. It has won championship and endurance races, including the GT class of the American Le Mans Series seven times, first overall in the 24 Hours of Daytona, and first overall at the 24 Hours Nürburgring six times.
Porsche launched the Porsche RS version of the Porsche 991 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015. Compared to the Porsche 991 GT3, the front fenders are now equipped with louvers above the wheels and the rear fenders now include Turbo-like intakes, rather than an intake below the rear wing. The roof is made from magnesium. The interior includes full bucket seats (based on the carbon seats of the Porsche 918 Spyder), carbon-fibre inserts, lightweight door handles and the Club Sport Package as standard (a bolted-on roll cage behind the front seats, preparation for a battery master switch, and a six-point safety harness for the driver and fire extinguisher with mounting bracket).

The Porsche 3.8-litre unit found in the Porsche 991 GT3 is replaced with a 4.0-litre unit with 500 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is PDK only. The drivetrain delivers Porsche 0-62 mph (0-100kmh) in 3.3 seconds (0.6 seconds quicker than the previous Porsche GT3 RS 4.0) and 0-124 mph (0-200kmh) in 10.9 seconds. The Porsche 991 GT3 RS also comes with functions such as declutching by "paddle neutral" — comparable to pressing the clutch with a conventional manual gearbox –- and Pit Speed limiter button. As with the Porsche 991 GT3, there is rear-axle steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with fully variable rear axle differential lock. The Nürburgring Nordschleife time is 7 minutes and 20 seconds.
Porsche 911 Carrera RS (1973 and 1974) models, valued by collectors, are considered by many to be the greatest classic Porsche 911s of all-time. RS stands for Rennsport in German, meaning race sport in English. The Porsche Carrera name was reintroduced from the Porsche 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950s. The Porsche RS was built so that Porsche could enter racing formulae that demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were made. Compared with a standard Porsche 911S, the Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS had a larger engine (2687 cc) developing 210 PS (150 kW; 210 hp) with Bosch (Kugelfischer) MFI, revised and stiffened suspension, a "ducktail" rear spoiler, larger brakes, wider rear wheels and rear fenders. In Porsche RS Touring form it weighed 1075 kg (2370 lb), in Porsche Sport Lightweight form it was about 100 kg (220 lb) lighter, the saving coming from the thin-gauge steel used for parts of the body shell and also the use of thinner glass. In total, 1580 Porsche RS were made, comfortably exceeding the 500 that had to be made to qualify for the vital FIA Group 4 class. 49 Porsche Carrera RS cars were built with 2808 cc engines producing 300 PS (221 kW).

In 1974, Porsche created the Porsche Carrera RS 3.0 with mechanical fuel injection producing 230 PS (169 kW). Its price was almost twice that of the Porsche 2.7 RS, but it offered a fair amount of racing capability for the money. The chassis was largely similar to that of the 1973 Porsche Carrera RSR and the brake system was from the Porsche 917. The use of thin metal plate panels and a Spartan interior enabled the shipping weight to be reduced to around 900 kg (1984 lb).
