SHAHDAG, AZERBAIJAN (4K)

We were all set to embark on our journey from Baku to Shahdag. It is the name of an area named after the famous mountain of Azerbaijan, Mount Shahdag. It comes under the territory of Qusar District, close to the border with Russia. Mount Shahdagh is a mountain peak of the Greater Caucasus range and theelevation of the peak is 4,243 metres (13,921 ft) above sea level.

In the region, various resorts and hotels are built which are operational during specific seasons only. The two famous 5-star hotel situated in Shahdag include; Shahdag Hotel & Spa and Shahdag Palace Hotel.

Our stay was in Shahdag Hotel & Spa.

The journey from Baku to Shahdag was nearly around 4 hours (225 kms) due to the highway repair work being carried out and speed limit of 110 km/h. For the first two hours, the highway was a bit rough and the scenery was okay. Upon the intersection taking us to Qusar district and while passing from Quba City, the scenery was magical. It was one of the best rides we ever had.

Upon reaching he Shahdag region, the visibility got very low as we were driving 12,000 ft above the sea level. Literally between the clouds. Upon reaching the hotel, we reserved the room with the Mountain view which was indeed mesmerizing.

The cost of the room was 200 AZN for double occupancy with breakfast included.

Due to low visibility and off-season, the region was quite empty however we walked around the hotel to see a glimpse of the area.

We headed towards the most awaited part of the day, the Shahdag Coaster situated within the premises of of Shahdag Hotel & Spa.

Not sure about the speed or a conventional roller coaster experience but the breath-taking view of the mountains and scenic looks made sure that we all left our heart in Shahdag.

Entry ticket price for the coaster was: 15 AZN for one adult & 20 AZN for two adults.

Since there was no local restaurants nearby, all we had as an option from the hotel which was though quite expensive.

Walked around the hotel, visited the state-of-the-art health club. Ordered dinner in the room & conceded the day.
