“Watching from the sidelines, I stayed in the moment. I made my notes mentally rather than jotting them down in a book, because seven-minute halves fly by and you need to stay immersed rather than distanced..... Half-times in sevens are like few other sports. We gather in a huddle on the pitch and a television camera and long sound boom join us. Everyone at home can hear what the coach is saying to his players. If they cut away from us, or the sound isn’t working,there will be outrage from high government offices back in Fiji. Emails fired off: why aren’t the cameras in, the people of Fiji want to hear what’s happening... “

“So I always keep it simple and courteous. Two or three simple tactical points, making sure I make eye contact with each of the players, that I stand and move so everyone can see me and take confidence from my body language. I am aware, too, that against New Zealand and South Africa, they will have an assistant listening in to the TV feed and relaying my tactics straight back to their own coach and team, and so I take Osea aside for a few moments to give him the detail and then get him to repeat it to the boys in Fijian....”

The super coach from England: left England to coach Fiji in 2013. Went without pay for 6 months but still stayed. Got the Fiji boys fit, introduced them to dieting, got them contracted and much more. He went on to coach the boys to win 2 World Series Championships, and to win Fiji's first ever Gold Medal at the Rio Olympics.
