The US Marine Toys For Tots program started in 1947 in Los Angeles, California by Major Bill Hendricks. In 1948 it expanded into a nationwide community action project as the U. S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Program. That's where Joe LaPadula and Jon Holzer along with their team at Martino Auto Concepts came in! Joe and Jon started their mission in 2011 with only 75 vehicles and a couple thousand toys in a local parking lot. This year at the 6th annual Martino Auto Concepts Toys4Tots event starting in the City of Glen Cove along with a Nassau County Police escort to Citi Field ( Home of the New York Mets) they successfully orchestrated over 1500 luxury and exotic automobiles and a record breaking 50,000 plus Toys! This would not be possible without tremendous support from Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello, Glen Cove City Hall , Glen Cove Police Department, Glen Cove Auxiliary Police Department, Glen Cove Fire Department, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Nassau County Legislator Delia Deriggi Whitton, Acting Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter, US Marine Major Chuck Kilbride, US Marine Gunnery Sergeant Brian Gomez, The US Marines, New York Mets owner David Katz, the management team at Citi Field, New York Police Department, Gabrielle Truck Sales, Ferrari - Maserati of Long Island, Grella Contracting Corp, Joseph Cinque and the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, the dedicated staff at Martino Auto Concepts, the car community and ALL the sponsors, volunteers and participants.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
