Margaret, born in Georgia, is married to Earl Brown, whom she met in graduate school. They are blessed with an ever-smiling daughter, 37, and an ever-sleeping cat, 7. One will soon be certified to teach K-6; the other no longer tears keys off Margaret's laptop. She taught college English, wrote a weekly humor column for the Roanoke newspaper and edited an honors organization's 56-page quarterly.
Margaret created honors courses for freshmen. Honors at Radford University meant different, not more work: hands-on-learning and primary sources. Don't ask about a student's night-time project in the course, "Poverty." Or a student's discovery in "Community Service." Never, ever ask about two veterans showing up to class during The "Vietnam War."
