NICU AND PICU ADMISSION AND DISCHARGE CRITERIA

NICU admission criteria typically include:
1. Prematurity: Premature newborns who require specialized care due to their low birth weight and immature organ systems may require admission to the NICU.
2. Respiratory distress: Newborns with breathing difficulties, such as respiratory distress syndrome, may require admission to the NICU for respiratory support.
3. Low birth weight: Newborns with a low birth weight may require admission to the NICU for monitoring and support to ensure adequate growth and development.
4. Birth defects: Newborns with congenital birth defects, such as heart defects or neural tube defects, may require admission to the NICU for specialized care.
