🌎🧠 Chronic pain is a huge problem world wide, with 1/3 of the population suffering from chronic pain. Problems with pharmacological treatments have led to increased demands for novel nonpharmacological therapies to relieve pain. Neuroimaging has guided researchers to study the biomarkers of pain in the brain and develop new therapies such as neurofeedback, transcranial current stimulation, and alpha entrainment.

Speakers:
Dr Donna Lloyd | Dr Donna Lloyd joined the University of Leeds as a Lecturer in January 2013 before being promoted to Associate Professor in June 2014. Prior to that she was a Lecturer in the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Manchester. During her DPhil from the University of Oxford, she investigated visuo-tactile integration in humans using fMRI. Her post-doctoral appointment at the University of Liverpool involved using fMRI to measure central nervous system response to chronic back pain and phantom limb pain. Her research focuses on the multisensory and cognitive factors underlying body representation and somatic awareness (including touch, pain and itch). She is interested in the behavioural and neural traits that predict whether someone will misperceive touch using perceptual illusions, signal detection analysis, fMRI, EEG and transcranial electrical stimulation.

Evelyn Wong | Evelyn is a 3rd year medical student at the University of Manchester. She has developed an interest for neuroscience and is working on projects about neurofeedback for chronic pain, depression and anxiety, as well as prison healthcare. As the brand director of YoungAcademics Manchester, she strives to expannd opportunities for research to students.
