The Cats Who Got The Cream - 2002 All-Ireland Hurling Championship 🟡⚫️

The old order was challenged in the hurling championship this year. A fearless Antrim side refused to be overawed by Munster opposition in Croke Park. Wexford dispelled talk of a weak Leinster competition in putting it up to Kilkenny in a nailbiter. And finally a great white wave came thundering out of Waterford to dethrone the All Ireland Champions Tipperary and brought an end to the Decies Munster famine.

After the dust settled it came down to a clash between the upstarts and the aristocrats, A Clare side written off by many as past their best, used the back-door to good effect and returned to Croke Park in September. But the day was to befong to the Cats who won the title with new young forwards, tiger-ish backs and the return of a cerlain prodigal son - Denis John Carey.
