We often hear of Millennials being very entitled and lazy, however, in my experience this is far from the truth. Many of the Millennials that I see are doing wonderful things, and I am extremely excited about this next generation and Generation Z with academic research.

There are some general trends that are extremely beneficial with Millennials and going to graduate school. (Note, this is just based on my own experiences, and not based on academic research)

1. A group of Millennials are more concerned with authenticity and making a difference then simply publishing research for the sake of academic fame.

2. Many millennials are not concerned with social status and have a very good mindset.

3. Many Millennials work very hard on something they care about.
Many Millennials are connected and understand online social dynamics, so they can have tremendous influence.

4. Many Millennials are not scared of using computing technology, which was somewhat of an issue in previous generations.

To be honest I'm extremely hopeful that millennials will change the academic world for the better. I imagine that there will be much more inclusivity and a focus on problems that actually matter. We are likely to go through at Renaissance in academic research because of Millennials and subsequent generations.
