In a few months time the Colombian government will allow a private company to construct a massive commercial port in one of the most unique natural places in the world, the biogeographic Chocó. This region represents one of the most biodiverse places with over 25% of its species being endemic, including plants, butterflies, amphibians, birds, etc. In addition this region is a nursery area for humpback whales, many shark species, including the endangered scalloped hammerhead and the critically endangered sawfish. Furthermore, this region constitutes a freshwater hotspot since it rains an average of 12.000 mm3 annually.

The port will destroy almost 1000 hectares of mangroves forest, 971 hectares of beaches that nesting turtles use every year, it will affect over 1,500 humpback whales, and will cut through primary forest to build a highway, increasing the illegal wildlife and timber trade and turning the rainforest into cattle farms.
