Описание к видео Cappadocia, Turkey | Hot Air Balloon Ride!

Have you ever been to Cappadocia, Turkey?

If you have the time and opportunity, I highly recommend visiting the historically rich region located between 5 cities: Kayseri, Nevşehir, Nide, Kırşehir, and Yozgat. I would recommend visiting the “red” and the “blue” regions.

There are approximately 36 underground cities located in the Cappadocia region. The largest of them is the underground city of Derinkuyu, which has 8 floors. This underground city that Hittites built and used for centuries was also used by Romans and Byzantines.

The hot air balloon ride doesn’t go to specific destinations, since all depends on the wind conditions at the time. However, usually, you get to see Göreme, Ürgüp, Avanos, and Uçhisar from above.

As you can see in the video, the “fairy chimneys” are a big fascination in Cappadocia. They have a mushroom-like appearance and are formed after millions of years of wind and rain erosion, which has worn down the soft volcanic tuff, leaving the these structures behind. These structure are found in Paşabağ Valley, Love Valley, and Gorkundere Valley.

Here are some of the destinations we saw during our flight:

Pigeon Valley (Güvercinlik Vadisi)—earned its name from the countless man-made dovecotes—or pigeon houses—that have been carved into the soft volcanic tuff. Pigeons play a very important role in Cappadocia and are very well protected; since ancient times pigeons have been used in the region for food and fertiliser for the infertile soil.

Pasabag Valley (Paşabağ Vadisi)— Also known as a Valley of the Monks, is a region located in the middle of a vineyard. Byzantine Greek population was located in the region.

Göreme Historical National Park — located in the volcanic zone of Hasan Mountain and Erciyes Mountain. Entirely sculpted by erosion, the Goreme valley and its surroundings contain rock hewn sanctuaries that provide unique evidence of Byzantine art in the post iconoclastic period. Dwellings, troglodyte villages, underground towns, and the remains of a traditional human habitat dating back to the 4th century can also be seen there.

Devrent Valley (aka Imagination Valley)— Unlike other valleys in the region, Devrent Valley was never inhabited by humans—no rock-hewn churches, ancient castles, troglodyte caves or pigeon homes. The valley is made up of pink-hued rock formations and geological anomalies that have been formed by centuries of erosion.

What do you think? Worth visiting? :) 🎈🌅⛰
