Описание к видео Speaking with Patients about Sexuality and Gender Part 1

In the first segment of this two-part video, Jennifer Potter, M.D. leads a group of health professional educators in an engaging discussion on Speaking with Patients about Sexuality and Gender. Panelists provide an overview of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex development; discuss how to create a welcoming clinical environment for patients; offer methods to address missteps in communication; and discuss how discuss how understanding patients’ multiple identities can improve the patient-provider relationship.

Dr. Potter is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Director of the Women's Health Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Director of the Women's Health Program at Fenway Health, Associate Editor of the MedEdPORTAL LGBT Health Curriculum Collection, and co-author of the AAMC publication Implementing Curricular and Institutional Climate Changes to Improve Health Care for Individuals Who Are LGBT, Gender Nonconforming, or Born with DSD.


Learning Objectives:
After viewing this video, the learner will be able to:
1. Understand, and differentiate between, the following terms: sexual behavior, sexuality, sexual health, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, gender nonconforming, transgender, sexual identity, and differences of sex development.
2. Identify at least two strategies for openly communicating about sexuality and gender with patients that can impact patient care.
3. Identify at least two examples of how judgmental communication related to a patient’s sexuality and/or gender has impacted patient care.
