New definition of extremism 'not a restraint on free speech'

Michael Gove says the new definition of extremism is more "precise" and is "not a restraint on free speech".

The communities secretary told Sky News it was not intended to "prevent people from demonstrating" but was a response to "the increase in the amount of antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred that we've seen on our streets and social media and elsewhere".

He would not be drawn on which organisations would make up this list, saying it would set out extra detail in parliament as it "needs to hear first" but said the "gospel of hate" needed to be tackled.
