This video contains the very 1st song that an odissi dancer learns after mastering over the basics. The name of the item is "Mangalacharan" made in Raag Megh and Kedar in Eka Tali. Mangalacharan marks the beginning of staging, i.e. the entry of the dancer. This item is done to seek the blessing of Lord Ganesha before the artist starts to perform to remove the obstacles.
The artist solicits the blessing of Lord Jagannath for an auspicious beginning, followed by bhumi pranam(salutation to mother earth) , Guru pranam, pranam to the accompanists, Sabha pranam. Through her dance, the artist prays Lord Ganesh for his blessings.
