"Soft Power" has been defined as a form of power coming from the ability to persuade other nations, rather than coerce. For Japan, this has often been used in reference to the influence of Japan's culture, but how much value does Japan actually gain from the global reach of its soft power? Professor David Leheny of the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University talks with Japan Up Close about how Japan has capitalized on the unique identy of its cultural properties, and how this influence feeds back into Japan's prestige on the world stage.
