西門口位於中國廣州市現時的中山六路、中山七路與人民北路、人民中路交會處一帶。因地處明、清兩代廣州城的正西門而得名。正西門和城牆在1920年代開建馬路時被拆毀，現在只存一小段城基。現大都為商店和居民住宅大樓，有五羊回民飯店、廣州市婦嬰醫院、美國銀行大樓、中六電腦城 和西門口廣場2期等。
最初在1988年的地下鐵道路網規劃的初步方案中，設有西門口站，是1號線的一個中途站，位置已大致與現時相同。
車站命名方面，由於車站旁鄰近1920年拆除的明、清兩代廣州城的正西門（即西門口），位置亦位於現時的中山六路、中山七路與人民北路、人民中路交匯處一帶。正因為如此車站亦命名為西門口站。
1993年12月28日，1號線正式動工。 1996年，廣州市文物考古研究所在位於車站工地處發現了明代西城門甕城遺址。 1999年6月28日，西門口站隨一號線全線通車而啟用。

Ximenkou is located at the intersection of Zhongshan 6th Road, Zhongshan 7th Road, Renmin North Road and Renmin Middle Road in Guangzhou, China. It is named because it is located at the main west gate of Guangzhou City in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The main west gate and the city wall were demolished when the road was built in the 1920s, and only a small section of the city foundation remains. Most of them are now shops and residential buildings, including Wuyang Muslim Hotel, Guangzhou Women and Children's Hospital, Bank of America Building, Zhongliu Computer City and Ximenkou Square Phase 2.
In the initial preliminary plan for the subway network planning in 1988, Ximenkou Station was set up as an intermediate station on Line 1, and its location is roughly the same as it is now.
In terms of station naming, the station is close to the main west gate (i.e. Ximenkou) of Guangzhou City in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which was demolished in 1920, and is also located at the intersection of Zhongshan 6th Road, Zhongshan 7th Road, Renmin North Road and Renmin Middle Road. Because of this, the station is also named Ximenkou Station.
On December 28, 1993, Line 1 officially started construction. In 1996, the Guangzhou Cultural Relics and Archaeology Institute discovered the ruins of the Ming Dynasty West Gate Wengcheng at the station site. On June 28, 1999, Ximenkou Station was put into use with the opening of Line 1.
