I suggest it over regular chalk, because it doesn't dry out the paint pen as bad when you add the body of your lettering.

Keep a piece of scrap paper handy to tap your pen on. This will keep the paint flowing while avoiding big blobs coming out on your board. Painter's brand is my favorite white to work with, BUT it will always require two coats.
