US-India Trade Deal: Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday defended the India–US trade agreement in the Lok Sabha, saying it will significantly boost Indian exports, especially labour-intensive sectors, while safeguarding sensitive areas like agriculture and dairy. Goyal said negotiations began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in February 2025 and involved year-long in-depth discussions. He highlighted that tariffs on Indian goods have been reduced to 18%, lower than those imposed on several competitor nations. The minister added that the agreement supports India’s goal of becoming Viksit Bharat by expanding opportunities in energy, aviation, data centres, nuclear power and advanced manufacturing, reinforcing “Make in India for the world” and “Design in India for the world.”
