Описание к видео 4910 cab tour Lithgow NSW. 20th May 2020

The former NSWGR ordered three batches of six 49 class locomotives from Clyde Engineering, at Granville NSW delivered over the period 1960-64. 4910, in this video, was delivered in August 1962.

Designed for branch line working, they only weighed around 80 tons and during their tenure they served over the vast majority of NSW branch lines. For a period they even served on the Belmont and Redhead coal trains in Newcastle. Powered by an EMD 8-567C or 8-567CR two stroke V8 Roots blower engine they were rated around 950hp.

Although the cab was somewhat cramped, they were well regarded by drivers for a smooth ride and reliability although a little on the noisy side. Due to their small horsepower the class were sent to DELEC around 1993 for use on works and trip trains before being gradually withdrawn from service in 1994 and all were laid up by 1997, many ended up in the hands of private owners while some were scrapped.

4910 was re-classed as "KL81" whilst under the guise of CFCLA but reverted back to 4910 later with SSR. 4907 & 4913 were leased to the Manildra Group as yard shunting engines before being purchased outright and rebadged as MM1 & MM2 respectively.

4905 lies languishing in Seymour loco in Victoria perched on a stand minus the bogies, it was used for traction motor testing by Traction Engineering. The 49 class is roughly related to and based on the very successful Victorian Railways T class.
