MetroTV, The Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) recovered the bodies of seven Chinese tourists and their driver from Lake Baikal in Irkutsk region on Saturday, after their vehicle fell through the ice a day earlier.

Footage shows the agency’s personnel loading body bags on a lorry.

On Friday, regional governor Igor Kobzev reported that a car carrying the foreign tourists had fallen through the ice near Cape Khoboy. He added that one person had managed to escape.

Later, the EMERCOM clarified that rescuers had found the bodies of the remaining passengers at a depth of 18 metres.

Investigators have now completed examining the site and are conducting further inquiries to establish the details of the incident.

The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into 'performing services that fail to meet safety requirements' and 'negligence'.
