The Cobo Calleja industrial estate is located in the Madrid municipality of Fuenlabrada (Spain). It owes its name to the businessman from Berciano Manuel Cobo Calleja, who promoted its creation. It has 162 hectares of extension where around 500 small and medium-sized companies carry out their economic activities, which makes it one of the industrial centers in Europe with the highest business concentration. The wholesale import businesses of products manufactured in China stand out and it is considered the largest Chinese business complex in Europe.

The industrial estate is located to the south of the city of Madrid, 20 kilometers from the center of the capital, connected by road through the Toledo highway (A-42) and the M-506.

The industrial estate arose in the 1970s in the context of rapid industrial growth in the south of the Madrid metropolitan area and lax or non-existent urban and planning regulations.

Originally 69.3 hectares of the industrial estate were part of the municipality of Pinto. In 1993, by mutual agreement between the municipalities of Pinto and Fuenlabrada, a process of segregation of the former's lands that were located to the west of the Madrid-Badajoz railway line began. These lands housed several dozen warehouses, some of which were located directly on the dividing line of the municipalities, causing bureaucratic and land management problems on the municipal side, which was presented as a reason to execute the segregation. The segregation process was concluded in 1995, although the decision was later appealed in court.

In February 2011, an extension to the industrial estate called Plaza de Oriente was inaugurated. In a first phase, which required an initial investment of 43 million euros, it included the creation of an industrial zone with 80 companies, mainly of Chinese origin. A second phase provided for another 250 companies and a hotel, until the Plaza de Oriente complex reached 40,000 square meters.

The Cobo Calleja industrial estate is known for being the main importer and distributor in Spain of products made in China. Most of the items of Chinese origin arrive there, which are then sold in bazaars throughout the country, although direct retail sales are also made in the same estate. The Cobo Calleja estate houses 377 commercial stores run by Chinese citizens, giving employment as a whole to some 10,000 workers from that country, although the number of those legally hired is estimated at approximately one third of the total.
