Double Ninth Festival Hong Kong

Описание к видео Double Ninth Festival Hong Kong

So many highlights from my trip to Hong Kong. But this was probably my favorite because I learned so much. I arrived the day before the Double Ninth Festival which is a major holiday in Hong Kong. It is similar to Dia Day Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) that is celebrated in Mexico.

David Young (leader of the Hong Kong Skeptics) explained this festival from his viewpoint, obviously not as someone who was raised celebrating it. But from what he has learned and observed over the years he has lived in Hong Kong.

What we did not mention on this video was how hot it was that day. Over 85 degrees and then add that people were burning paper and ash was floating all over the place, it was a hot mess.

People everywhere, over stimulating. I had recorded people praying at some of the graves, I have removed them from this public video. No one cared that we were in the graveyard and filming. Some people looked at us with curiosity, but mostly we were ignored.

We tried to talk to some locals about the festival. One woman we asked told us a bit. The story she told us about the origins of the holiday were a little different than what David had been told. On the next few days I was in Hong Kong and also China we asked other people about origins, and each time we got a different story. Fascinating
