A short video of my 15mm scale (1/20th) model of one of the CIE C Class Metrovicks running on my 79mm gauge line in the garden. The model is built to represent one of these locos in its original condition - with a Crossley engine and the relatively short lived silver livery.
These locos were used on rural branch lines - most of which have long been closed. My inspiration for this model (C229) in particular was the Valentia branch in Co. Kerry.
Like the larger A class - the Crossley diesel engines were a bit of a disaster, and they were all replaced with General Motors units from the 1960's - after which they were very successful. The last survivors in regular use were a batch bought by Northern Ireland Railways which lasted until the mid 90's. I have built an unpowered model in this condition (No 106) which you can see at the end of the video.
Although often running with short branch line trains - the single CIE cattle wagon is just a bit too short! It is the only broad gauge wagon I have built so far, but I'll upload some better film when I have finished building a couple of coaches and a brake van.
