On The Newshour Debate today with Madhavdas G, we discuss war over the Center's ordinance. Opposition firmly stood against the ordinances introduced by the Central Government that extends the tenure of CBI and ED chiefs. The opposition says it is the central government's attempt to make India an 'elective autocracy'. The Centre proposes a 5-year extension term for CBI and ED chiefs which stand on a 2-year term now. According to several opposition parties, the government should have introduced changes and discussed them in the parliament before announcing them. The move by Bhartiya Janata Party seems fishy to other parties in opposition. CBI is in favor of extending the tenure of the director by 5 years. The concept of this Ordinance is not new says former CBI officer, AP Singh.
