PATCH UPDATE
So as of v1.01 this video is already outdated OTL All these combos still work, but the damage values that I show will not be the same. I might update this video but priority is to do as much of the rest of the cast as i can.

Guide for Kyo's basic tools and combos to get you started playing The King of Fighters XIV. Not all of these combos are optimized, but range from beginner to intermediate in difficulty. Feedback and questions are greatly appreciated.

Additional notes:
Kyo is the main character of KOFXIV but can be surprisingly difficult to play. One of the most important things to note is how his range affects his combos. He gets the most damage from qcf B, but it doesn't always work properly if his opponent is too far. If you combo from a jumping attack you will probably have to omit a normal from your string. This will come with practice.

Another difficult aspect of Kyo's combos is canceling is dp into his qcb-hcf super. Instead of the traditional f, d, df motion of a dp, you want to do a hcb-f motion instead. This motion hits all the directions required for a dp input, while at the same time buffering the qcb portion of the super. After the dp comes out, simply to a qcf P to finish the combo. This will take a considerable amount of practice, but you access Kyo's highest damage potential if you can master it.

Notation:
P = Punch
K = Kick
A = Light Punch (Square)
B = Light Kick (X)
C = Heavy Punch (Triangle)
D = Heavy Kick (Circle)
st. = standing
cl. = close
cr. = crouching
j. = jumping
b, d, f = back, down, forward respectively
qcf = quarter circle forward (d, df, f)
qcb = quarter circle back (d, db, b)
hcf = half circle forward (b, db, d, df, f)
hcb = half circle back (f, df, d, db, b)
dp = dragon punch (f, d, df)
rdp = reverse dragon punch( b, d, db)
xx = cancel
arrow = do immediately after unless specified
- = follow up
