The town has several claims to fame, including:

Captain Cook:
Whitby was the home of the famous explorer Captain James Cook. He started his seafaring career in Whitby, working for a local shipping company, and his ship, the Endeavour, was built in the town.

Dracula:
Whitby is also famous for its association with Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula. Stoker visited Whitby in 1890 and was inspired by the town's dramatic cliff scenery and the ruins of Whitby Abbey. He used these elements as inspiration for the novel, and many of the key scenes in the story are set in the town.

Fish and Chips:
Whitby is renowned for its fish and chips, which are considered some of the best in the country. The town's fishing industry has a long history, and you can still see fishing boats in the harbour today.
