Tigre (pronounced "Tigray") is a city located in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires, 30 km from the city of Buenos Aires. It is built on the banks of the Parana Delta, one of the largest deltas in the world.
The Parana Delta is formed by the confluence of the Rio Parana and several of its tributaries. The region is made up of thousands of islands, canals and rivers, and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.
It is a popular area for tourists who come to explore the islands and canals by boat, and to taste its seafood such as shrimp and crab.
The city of Tigre is the starting point for exploring the Delta.
The city is known for its floating craft market and its mini-cruises in lanchas (wooden boats) in the arms of the Rio Parana delta.
It is nicknamed the "Green Venice of Buenos Aires" because it is a green city dotted with canals, where most travel is by boat (or zodiac, jet ski, kayak, etc.) around the houses built on stilts.
