Neighbor CONFRONTS me, FRUSTRATED with Property Damage from Elderly Lady’s Overgrown Lawn

It was a quiet afternoon when I got a call from an elderly woman, frustrated because her view of the lake was blocked by an overgrown lawn. So, I packed up my equipment and headed down to help her out. The grass was thick and wild, almost reclaiming the yard entirely, but that wasn’t the real surprise.

As I was clearing the tall grass by the lake, I spotted something odd—a massive willow tree, its trunk split in half, lying across the neighbor’s fence. The tree had fallen in the storm a while back and clearly caused some damage. I could see the fence was bent and broken where the tree had come down, and I had to wonder: Who was responsible for that mess?

Not long after, the neighbor appeared. His face was tight with frustration, and before I could even say hello, he asked me if I was the one cleaning up the tree. I told him I was only there for the lawn. He had clearly been waiting for someone to take responsibility for the damage, and he didn’t look like he was getting the answers he wanted from me. I explained to him that he should stop up at the house and talk to the Lady, I just didn't have the equipment to clean up.

While the tree did belong to the elderly woman, it ended up falling on the Neighbors fence and leaving a mess. Who should clean it up? And should I try to help, or just walk away and let them sort it out?

I asked the Elderly Lady if she knew about the Tree and who was responsible and she shared that she wasn't going to be able to do it unless I could do it.

I need a bigger saw so I can go help her out.
