I would like to invite everyone to attend this month's UULA Adult Religion class held on Friday October 21st, at 6:30. This month's topic will be on Alchemy and Transformation. The class will be held at the UULA Church building, and for those who can't attend in person, it will be streamed live here.

Alchemy is usually understood as the quest to transform lead into gold. However, among those who actually practiced Alchemy, it was seen as the attempt to transform and purify the soul, and attain eternal life. This journey of spiritual transformation was symbolized by the transformation of lead into gold, which was seen as one potential byproduct of the spiritual quest. This spiritual attainment would (perhaps ironically) remove all desire for any material wealth that could have possibly been produced by transforming lead into gold.
