Farmers planning a major protest against the Chancellor's inheritance tax changes could face arrest if they block roads in central London Tuesday 19 October 2024.

Thousands are expected to gather in Westminster over Rachel Reeves' Budget changes, which stop farms from being fully passed on without inheritance tax.

Starting next year, farming assets over £1 million will face a 20% inheritance tax, sparking fears that many families will be forced to sell off parts of their land.

The Treasury claims only a few farms will be affected, but the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) analysis suggests the changes will impact three-quarters of British farm production.

The protest is set to align with an NFU mass lobby, where members will meet MPs to push for the reversal of the tax changes.
