St Marks National Wildlife Refuge recently announced new road construction and cutting down some of the vegetation that was creating blind spots in the refuge. This video is as of November 11th, 2022. I started recording from the entrance all the way to the lighthouse. Checkout the progress on the road stripping and vegetation cleaning on both sides. I have been visiting the refuge for the past 20 years or so and never seen a major work as this one. It is so nice to see how open was both sides of the road to the lighthouse after a lot of cleaning. The road construction was halfway through as of Nov 11th, 2022. You can also see where they stopped due to hurricane Nicole making a landfall at St Marks.
The impact from hurricane Nicole seems minimum at the refuge. Some smaller degree flew on the road and pines covered the road due to the wind. I saw no structural damage to any parts, no trees fell.
