Unusual Rock Formation at Devils Postpile National Monument Near Mammoth Lakes, CA

Devils Postpile National Monument is an interesting place where you can witness first-hand the amazing work of Mother Nature. It is an unusual rock formation of columnar basalt that rises out from the earth. There are a few of these similar rock formations in the United States and around the world. Some of them are the Devil's Tower in Wyoming or the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. However, Devil's Postpile ranks as one of the world's best examples of columnar basalt. It's a pretty cool place to visit, especially if you combine it with a trip to Rainbow Falls.
