ICF and Dynamic Movement Intervention at ApexaQLA Suisse
At ApexaQLA Suisse, we follow the ICF model to ensure therapy goes beyond impairments, focusing on functionality, participation, and individual progress. Our approach integrates assessment, goal setting, targeted interventions, and real-life functional training, always adapting to each child’s needs.
DMI in Our Therapy
We use Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) to promote active movement, neuroplasticity, and motor learning. At ApexaQLA Suisse, DMI helps children by:
✅ Building strength, balance, and coordination
✅ Encouraging independent movement (e.g., rolling, standing, walking)
✅ Enhancing real-world participation and confidence
By combining ICF principles with DMI, we ensure therapy is not just about improving movement but empowering children to engage fully in life.
What is DMI?
Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used in physical and occupational therapy to treat children with motor delays. This method aims to enhance automatic postural reactions and support progress toward developmental milestones. Through targeted dynamic exercises prescribed by the therapist, active motor responses are elicited in the child. DMI leverages the brain's ability to form new neural connections, supporting the development of motor skills.
Why DMI?
Promotion of brain development: DMI helps to create new neural connections and support motor development.
Improvement of postural reactions: The exercises aim to enhance automatic postural reactions, which are important for stable body posture.
Achieving developmental milestones: DMI supports children in reaching important motor milestones.
Strengthening of muscle power and coordination: The exercises improve strength, coordination, and balance.
Support for language and socio-emotional development: Independent mobility, promoted by DMI, has positive effects on language development and socio-emotional competence.
Individual adaptation: The exercises are tailored to the specific needs and abilities of each child.
Early intervention: Starting DMI early helps develop healthy movement patterns and avoid bad habits.
Who is DMI for?
DMI is particularly suitable for children with motor delays, including those with:
Down syndrome
Cerebral palsy
Global developmental delay
Hypotonia
...
We are thrilled with the progress our young patient has already made and look forward to the challenges and successes in the coming weeks and beyond!
We are certified in NISE-STIM 1 and use surface, spinal, and functional muscle electrical stimulation. Our therapists are DMI certified at Levels A, B, and C. Additionally, we use the Galileo vibration plate to improve the muscle strength and coordination of our patients. We also employ TheraTogs to achieve the highest therapy efficiency possible.
