Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday outlined key outcomes of his recent tour to Japan and South Korea, declaring that Mohali is now positioned to become “India’s next Silicon Valley” after Bengaluru. The Chief Minister addressed a detailed press conference upon returning to the state, highlighting a surge of global interest—particularly from Japanese companies—in investing in Punjab. Mann said that several leading firms from Japan have expressed interest in participating in the Invest Punjab Summit 2026, scheduled for March 13–15 next year.

CM Mann said he held a significant meeting with Hajine Ishii, Senior Vice President of Japan’s Toray Industries Inc., a global leader in technical textiles, data science, aerospace components, and automotive materials. According to the Chief Minister, Toray has conveyed strong interest in expanding into North India, marking a major shift from its current operations in Bengaluru and Chennai. The company has reportedly identified land just five minutes from Mohali Airport, signalling an accelerated timeline for its Punjab expansion.

“Toray’s entry strengthens Mohali’s position as India’s next Silicon Valley,” he said, adding that the region is increasingly attracting high-tech investment due to improved infrastructure, proximity to the airport, and Punjab government’s industry-friendly policies.
