How much do you know about UNESCO in Scotland? Did you know that there are 13 UNESCO designations throughout Scotland, encompassing some of the most interesting cultural and natural sites in the country? This video offers an introduction to UNESCO in Scotland and will take you through the important sites.

UNESCO was founded in 1945 and brings together countries, communities, and people. One of the ways it does this is by designating sites of special natural and historic importance around the world. Scotland has 13 of these sites and you can visit them when you get here! From Edinburgh City of Literature to the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, the variety of these places is amazing.

It’s not just historic sites that UNESCO promotes, it’s natural wonders too. In Scotland we have the Wester Ross Biosphere and the Galloway and South Ayrshire Biosphere as well as two Global Geoparks. These sites of special scientific interest are beautiful and precious, and often wild and remote.
