If you are looking for a one day hike in Southern California with beautiful waterfall and river canal with moderate hike, one of the best place to visit in Eaton Canyon Falls Trail in Pasadena.
The First Part of the hike covers beautiful hike next to river leading to the bridge with scenic views and the second part after crossing river canal several times the hike will lead to beautiful waterfalls. Eaton Canyon is an easily accessible trail within Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park, a 190-acre nature preserve situated at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The trail offers an enjoyable hike through oak forests and riparian woodlands. Decent guided tours are also provided from Eaton Canyon Nature Center.

Check out this 4.40 mile, out and back trail near Pasadena, California. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 2 h 7 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and other nature trips, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Eaton Canyon Trail is a relatively easy hike to a 40-foot waterfall and small pool with views of the San Gabriel Mountains and Santa Monica Mountains. Its proximity to Pasadena, Altadena, and Santa Monica make this a very popular trail for casual hikers in Los Angeles. The trailhead can get very crowded on the weekends and those hot California summer days, but it's worth a visit even if you have to fight through crowds. The journey is especially beautiful when spring wildflowers carpet the lower portions of the canyon floor of the Eaton Canyon Natural Area. As one of the most popular hiking trails in this part of Los Angeles County, this trail definitely sees its fair share of usage. Always be sure to follow the ‘leave no trace’ principles and pack out everything you pack in.
The excellent Eaton Canyon Nature Center is located near the parking lot and features great exhibits and free presentations for those who are interested. It includes public restrooms inside. This family-friendly Southern California trail will be easy for most, although it gets more rugged the closer you get to the waterfall. The trail only has a few hundred feet of elevation gain, but there are several stream crossings and areas of boulder-hopping and rock climbing on the way to Eaton Canyon Falls. Nevertheless, this fantastic trail is manageable for most people.

To get to the trailhead: Take the Altadena exit off the 210 Freeway in Pasadena. Head north on Altadena Drive. The Eaton Canyon Nature Area is a couple miles up the road on the right past New York Drive. Pull into the park, leave your vehicle in the lot by the nature center and start hiking
north.

WARNING
There is a route beyond the first fall deeper into the canyon. This route is not an official trail and should only be attempted by those with extensive experience in climbing and canyoneering. Every year, hikers are injured and killed in the upper reaches of the canyon because they underestimate the difficulty. Don’t think just because a trail is within sight of a city that it’s not dangerous. I have not done this route, nor will I likely ever, and I do not recommend you attempt it. If you do, you are literally risking your life.

Eaton Canyon Trail comes around a bend to the left and hits the back of the canyon, where Eaton Falls makes a 40-foot single drop into a wide shallow pool. Have a seat on a boulder or a log and admire the waterfall. You can also pop off your boots and wade into the water to get a little closer.

Continuing above Eaton Canyon Falls is dangerous and not advised, so turn around at the waterfall for 3.5 mile round trip hike with 375 feet of elevation change.

Eaton Canyon Trail is well marked and easy to follow. Along with a powerful waterfall, spring brings a bountiful bloom to the park, filling the sides of the trail with fern leaf phacelia, chia, and other flowers.
