Instagram Stories versus new Snapchat features. So what's the latest and the greatest in the biggest updates? You're probably wondering, like many people are, is Instagram Stories going to take over Snapchat? Many are wondering what's going to happen to Snapchat and which platform is more beneficial to be on. How's this going to affect Instagram? How will this affect Snapchat and how should I use it? It'll be interesting to see how the new Instagram update of adding stories, will effect how users are using the platform.
Now, we've got some great examples of people who are using Instagram Stories the right way. I want you to check those out below this video so you can get a sense of people who are building their own Instagram account and their following and their business by using Instagram Stories.

When this first launched, when Stories first was released to the public, a lot of people speculated that Snapchat would go away. We have seen that there has been a decline in the number of people using Snapchat, who are already on Instagram, they already have a following there, so it just makes sense to stay on one platform. The first school of thought is, "Well, that's where my following is. It's really easy to just stay in one place. I should just use Instagram Stories." If that's you, let's talk about how to best use Instagram Stories.
Remember that people can see how many snaps or "stories" you're going to be viewing when they click on your story and if they see 75,000 little dashes, they most likely won’t watch. Based on feedback, my personal recommendation is that followers like a shorter story.
Some other things you want to consider when using Instagram is that people, at least initially, are following your account for a particular type of content, unlike Snapchat. On Snapchat, people follow you because they get you, they love you, and they want to kind of spend the day with you. They like your goofiness and they accept the fact that you're going to post pictures of your dog and a video of your husband snoring. On Instagram, people have probably followed you kind of for the same reason that we look at certain boards on Pinterest, meaning there's a certain type of content, a certain type of material and a type of topic that we're expecting from that particular page. The number one mistake that people started making when they first got on IG Stories is using it like Snapchat and just kind of posting their whole day and they got massive unfollows. Number one is to make sure you're not posting too many stories. Number two is remember Instagram Stories is not Snapchat. Stay consistent with the theme of your page at least for now until this platform evolves.
The next big observation that we've seen with Instagram Stories is that people have started using Instagram differently. There are those who only log in now and watch stories and then there are those who never look at stories other than when it first launched. They're just looking at people's feed in their original profile pages and they're really not even looking at stories anymore. Keeping that in mind, remember that if you're doing an Instagram story and you want people to look at something that's on your page, you might need to direct them there. It's also one of the few platforms where I think it makes sense to send people to another platform.
The same is true except on Instagram Stories. Because it's only 15 seconds, it's not the place to go into a monologue. It's a place for quick tips related to the topic or theme of your page and it's a place where you can, and I think it's perfectly acceptable, to direct people to a location where they can get longer content. In other words, if you've got a ten minute video that teaches your healthy cooking recipe, send them over to YouTube or better yet, send them to your website. I think that's one of the few exceptions in social media where it makes sense to let people know where they can find deeper content.
