Embark on a scenic hike through Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve, located in Mono, Ontario. This loop trail combines sections of the Bruce Trail and the Tom East Side Trail, offering a moderately challenging route with diverse landscapes and a touch of history.

Starting Point: Free parking lot at 307281 Hockley Road, Mono, ON.

Trail Markings: White blazes for the Bruce Trail; blue blazes for the Tom East Side Trail
🥾 Hike Description
1. Starting the Journey
Begin at the parking lot on the north side of Hockley Road. Walk a short distance west along Hockley Road to reach the Bruce Trail entrance. Follow the white blazes as the trail ascends through a hardwood forest, offering glimpses of the Nottawasaga River and surrounding ravines .
2. Transition to Tom East Side Trail
After a few hundred meters, you'll encounter the junction with the Tom East Side Trail. Turn right onto this side trail, marked by blue blazes. This section meanders through rolling woodlands, showcasing the lush greenery that Hockley Valley is known for
3. Rejoining the Bruce Trail
The Tom East Side Trail eventually loops back to the main Bruce Trail. Turn left to continue on the Bruce Trail, which will lead you back toward Hockley Road. Along this stretch, enjoy panoramic views of the valley and the diverse flora that thrives in this protected area .
4. Historical Highlight: The Abandoned 1939 Chevy Sedan
Approximately 2 kilometers from Hockley Road, keep an eye out for the remnants of a 1939 Chevy Sedan nestled beside the trail. This vintage car was used by the Nevett family from around 1951 until it was left to rest in the field after 1959. The property was later sold to the government in 1974 for the creation of the nature reserve . This relic offers a unique photo opportunity and a glimpse into the area's past.
5. Completing the Loop
Continue following the white blazes of the Bruce Trail as it descends back toward Hockley Road. Upon reaching the road, it's a short walk east along Hockley Road to return to the parking lot.

Flora and Fauna: The reserve is home to a variety of plant species, including trilliums and other wildflowers, especially vibrant in spring. Birdwatchers may also spot species like the Louisiana waterthrush .
Trail Etiquette: As the area is a nature reserve, activities are limited to hiking and snowshoeing. Please stay on marked trails and practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the natural environment.
Facilities: There are no washroom facilities or water sources along the trail, so plan accordingly.
