DSL is SLOW, Fiber is FAST and Expensive… and cable is basically out… right? Wrong. When It’s time to get internet for your apartment or home, I think, most of the time, cable is the best option for you, beating out both DSL and Fiber. LOOK. I get it. Cable has received a pretty bad rap for being slow, expensive, and having sneaky contracts. But that’s no longer the case.

Thank you for watching WhistleOut TV! If this video ends up helping you, or if you just like to listen to my voice, I want you to Subscribe! We post every Wednesday and Friday with content to help you better navigate the world of internet, cellphones, and providers. Now that’s out of the way, let’s dive into why cable internet is likely the best option for you.
I know what you’re thinking:
Cable internet is expensive... Wrong These days cable internet is quite affordable because you don’t have to bundle your TV and Internet service. You can just get the internet for some great prices (put prices of cable here). You no longer have to pay for the 300 hundred channels you’ve never watched, you just have to pay for what you actually use!
Another misconception about cable internet is that you’ll be locked into a contract that’s hard to get out of. That’s also wrong. Cable internet companies no longer lock you into a contract, so you’re free to leave and find a different provider whenever you want.
Although, there are still some contracts… if you sign up for long term service, some cable companies decrease the cost of your internet service… contracts now aren’t what they used be. Rigid. Complex. And HARD to get out of.
Lastly, you might be thinking, “isn’t cable internet slow? NOPE. In the last 20 years, billions of dollars have gone into cable infrastructure making it faster and better than ever before reaching speeds that rival fiber and decimate DSL
That being said cable is sometimes not as fast as fiber or as cheap as DSL -- usually.
But with cable internet you get the best of both worlds. Where DSL internet is cheaper, it runs through phone lines and is much slower than Cable internet which runs through coaxial cables. And while Fiber is faster it’s much more expensive than cable and it’s not as widely available. Cable infrastructure was installed years and years ago in neighborhoods across the country for cable TV. But now Cable is used almost solely for the internet. Plus, with those billion-dollar infrastructure updates I mentioned earlier, cable can reach speeds upwards of 400Mbps which is more than many households need.
One downside to cable internet is that the bandwidth is shared between the homes in your neighborhood. So just like congestion on a busy freeway, your internet can be slowed down if there are lots of people streaming, scrolling, or using the internet at the same time. However, these congested speeds are still faster than DSL which has the same congestion problems.
LOOK. I know there are some fiber ISPs that are cheap and great, but now that i’ve debunked some common misconceptions about cable, don’t be afraid to bypass fiber in favor of a cheaper and increasingly faster internet option: which is CABLE. Starting on this channel, we’re going to MakeCableGreatAgain is our hashtag, and McGa is our war cry.
