Sumazau is the most iconic traditional dance of Sabah 🇲🇾, performed by the Kadazandusun, the largest indigenous group in the state.

🪶 The graceful arm movements mimic the wings of an eagle soaring through the sky, and the dance is traditionally performed in pairs (male and female).

🕊️ The version in this video is from the Kadazan Penampang community, one of the many sub-ethnic groups with their own distinct style of Sumazau.

🥁 Sumazau is more than just a performance—it’s a cultural expression showcased during weddings 💍, welcoming ceremonies 👋, community celebrations 🎉, and especially Kaamatan, Sabah’s Harvest Festival 🌾.

The Sumazau dance in this video was performed at the Malaysia Dance Festival 2024 in Sabah, organised by JKKN Sabah (Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Negeri Sabah).
